Ardmore 2013 – #017

A cask share in this Ardmore cask from 2013, yields two (2) bottles of whisky when it is expected to be bottled in January 2025. The cask is bottled at usually full cask strength, which we expect to be approx. 53%.

It is expected that the cask will be stored until the winter of 2024, unless a cask sample en route says otherwise.
If the cask is stored until this time, the cask will be 10 years old when bottled.

Status of the cask:
August 19, 2022 : The whisky tasting panel was assembled and tasted, among other things, on a cask sample from this Ardmore cask from 2013.
The cask sample showed 60.3%. We will take a new cask sample home around autumn 2023, just to be absolutely sure that it will be bottled in December 2023 – however, it can be bottled in January 2024 at the earliest, due to the Christmas holidays in Scotland from 15 December 2023.
It is already easy to drink, with a fine smoke in both the aroma and the taste.
March 30,  2023 : In connection with the whiskey fair in Kolding (on 4 March 2023), we have received a new cask sample from the cask – the notes below are from this cask sample.
May 10,  2023 : The latest cask sample from February 2023 shows an ABV of a whopping 61%, and we in the tasting panel didn’t think it was quite ready yet. Therefore, the bottling is postponed by a year, so that it will be 11 years old before it is bottled. A new sample will be taken home in approx. 1 year’s time to assess whether the cask is ready for bottling or not.

If coal-fired stills had been wrecked in favor of steam in the early days of Ardmore, it could have been progress. But extinguishing the fire as the distillery celebrated its 100th anniversary seemed almost perverse. This large distillery is located on the eastern edge of Speyside, where Aberdeenshire’s barley fields begin. Will the switch to steam mean a less caramel-like malt in Ardmore whisky and blends from the parent company Teachers? Yes, probably.
